Field Use and Testing: a continuing enlightenment.
System used: 3 MPT-48
array modules per side on
5' scaffolding.

This was a Tim Sundog Corcoran Event featuring Vince Welnick of *The Grateful Dead*.

The Sundog Summer
Shakedown took place
at Hoppe Homestead
Campground; East Troy,
Wisconsin. This system
covered 14 acres of
beautiful landscape;
with ease.

This system far exceeds engineers' expectations and will surprise
an audience with sound that is simply unheard of.

System used: 3 MPT-48 array
modules per side. One of
which was used strictly to add
extra bottom end.

This was a three night Labor Day event held by The Rock Island Brewing Company in the District's plaza downtown
Rock Island, Illinois.

122 dB at the mix location was obtainable upon request with coherence readings on the mark from 28Hz to 20Khz. The FOH engineers throughout the weekend were mesmerized. We love people who can appreciate esoteric sound quality!

System used: 4 MPT-48
array modules per side with only the tops running full range.

This event was Gumbo-Ya-Ya in
Rock Island, Illinois.  The air was filled with Cajun music for miles.  We had fun!  A person could
feel the bass and clearly understand the harmonica player even when he
talked through his harmonica amp;
two blocks back.

System used: 4 MPT-48
array modules per side with only the tops running full range, plus four more for a center sub cluster.

This was for an MJG & 8-Ball
and Juvenile concert.  The three
dB down point on the system
was 23.7Hz.

With aid of the MPT's extremely precise directivity control
and inherent vocal clarity we
had no troubles making vocals
clear in this 65,000 sq. ft.
expedition center.

In the center of the room the audience experienced bass so intense that we'd rather not publish the SPL level.  We will say that the mix location (102 ft. from the speaker stack) experienced
108 dB A-weighted.

Jazz stage for the Quad Cities
Marathon. Rexroat Sound's
hometown is Moline, IL

which is one of the four
Quad Cities.

This was a really fun event!
One of the first chances to
test what only four MPT-48
modules can do outside.

System used: 2 MPT-48
array modules per side.

This was definitely a "smooth"
jazz party. We had a lot of
random comments of how
pleasant this system
sounded and we had her
pretty cranked at times.
No one complained of
it being too loud.

System used:
6 MPT-48 array modules per side.
An array like this of MPT-48's takes very little equalization and a measly 16,000 watts of power.

We sure could have used a few degrees of splay between the upper and lower rows, but our flying hardware hadn't been completed.  So, we made due. With comments ranging from "where are your subs", to "no, we don't need to plug in my optimization software, this system sounds pretty good" we were happy!  After the Starship engineer told us that the system was a "pleasure" to mix on, we knew that we were on to something.

Multi-media arts event at University of Iowa's IMU building, 2nd floor Ballroom.

This was a rave/dance in
a very  nice ballroom, and
they had Richie Hawtin
in to do a four hour set.

System used: 3 MPT-48
array modules per side.

The system was just what this somewhat reverberant room needed. The tight directional pattern of the MPT-48 allowed for us to skim the array down the 120' wall.  With 25' ceilings and no subs, we were happy with 126dB @ 28 Hertz virtually anywhere in the room.

This was some
initial testing of
one array of four
MPT-48's outside
in the country.  We
had a
friend on
the phone over
two miles away,
across a cornfield,
and through a mile

of woods.  We could
clearly hear our
voices back through
the phone about 10 seconds later.
